Private Montessori School in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania

The Montessori philosophy of education was established by Dr. Maria Montessori (1870-1952) through her medical background as a licensed physician, and her work with Children in a special environment. Dr. Montessori studied the child intensely from birth on and began to work with each child educationally in an environment that was suited to their physical, social and educational development. Dr. Montessori found that the child between the ages two and a half and six years went through various “sensitivity” periods in which he/she could grasp basic principles of education most easily and earnestly. She then developed certain methods of educating the child at this age level.
The Montessori Classroom is non-graded. Within the class session, the child enjoys individual instruction, group participation and free play. Each Child is on their own individual program according to their specific needs. This program includes many phases of education in order to nurture the “whole child”. We at Ancona Montessori School use this system. We believe it to be the best possible type of education especially for young children. The effects of Montessori education are backed by several phycologists and researchers.
